Rebel Oak is a new side project from Studio in the Sticks. It is an organic clothes brand for the curious, the thoughtful and lovers of symbols and story. There’s much much more to come from this project, so stay tuned.
Within the Rebel Oak logo is the Celtic symbol for the Oak tree. This comes from the ancient Ogham (OH-am) script that consists of twenty-five simple strokes centred on or branching off a central line (often a corner edge of a stone for example). Ogham is sometimes called the “Celtic Tree Alphabet” and each stroke of the Ogham corresponds to a letter of the alphabet, which is in turn associated with a tree.
The Druids held the Oak as one of the sacred three: ‘Oak, Ash & Thorn’ and In general is associated with intentions of protection, strength, success and stability, healing, fertility, health, money, potency, and good luck. The Oak has been considered sacred by just about every culture that has encountered the tree, but it was held in particular esteem by the Norse and Celts because of its size, longevity, and nutritious acorns.
It was while resting with the Oak that the idea of weaving it into this project came to be. It now has a central role.
